Their main business venture is the sale of water at significantly reduced prices to their community, while they also manage a waste-collection service that employs non-member youth from within the community as well as much-needed sanitation service to hundreds of households in the area. They are currently working to launch a low-cost Cyber Café/ICT training centre on their land, as well as treeplanting and biogas initiatives. A mature and well developed group, Kawangware Urumwe not only integrates the wisdom of elders through partnerships with some of the few remaining elderly community members, but also promotes gender mainstreaming through their gender-balanced policies and internal capacity building through their collaborative and participatory practices.
