our houses are temparally structures so there are no pipes that supply water to our home so we as the youth and the rest of the communty are forced to find ways to harsen water even the rain water. peter

Development Interests: Mathare Environmental Conservation Group.Mathare Environmental Conservation group is a multi-faceted organization of youth leaders who practice youth-to-child and peer-to-peer education and counseling on a community-wide basis. In addition to running a waste-collection business for income and to provide the service to their community, these youth have set up a learning centre and library for underprivileged children in their area, and coach a kids’ soccer league for the Mathare slum area. Though their self-made community hall was burnt down in the January 2008 post-election violence in Kenya, the youth of Mathare Environmental simply rebuilt an even better structure and are beloved by the community for, among other things, offering the space weekly as a public-viewing hall for sports games and other televised events for an affordable charge to locals. The space is also used for youth theatre, spoken word poetry presentations and other interactive learning events the youth offer to their community.
